The Smart Portfolio utilises a strategy called Core and Satellite. The aim is to use an ETF as the majority of the portfolio (Core) to reduce the beta and individual stocks (Satellites) to improve the chances to BEAT the overall market.

Latest stock purchase

This week is payday week so we are investing another £50 into the portfolio. This has had quite an impact on the portfolio as we are depositing another ¼ of the value into the portfolio in one lump sum. With the deposit we had two options of how the funds got distributed into the pie. First we had the Self-balancing which brings the portfolio back to their % allocated or the option to purchase by targets, this would mean that because VWRL represents 60% of the portfolio that £30 (60%) of the funds are invested into VWRL. We opted with the Self-balancing as VWRL was fairly out of weight by almost 10% so this bought it nicely inline again.

This weeks purchase:
VWRL @ 0.521 shares
UNH @ 0.005 shares

This weeks changes

The major earnings reports have come out for our top positions within the portfolio and almost all the positions have fared well. Still our two positions which are our biggest disappointments are GPN and DIS which are down 13.7% and 9.5% respectively. Despite these two stocks down around 10% or more, the overall portfolio is holding well with a 3.6% gain. I am hoping now that we have bought VWRL more in line with the % allocation within the portfolio we can see slightly less volatility and a steady growth going forward.

We have received an impressive amount of dividends with receiving £0.03 from ASML in the last week with a total of £0.18 gained from this total growth portfolio.

Our largest Gain: Microsoft (MSFT) @ 15.55%
Our largest Loss: Global Payment Network (GPN) @ -13.71%

Some of the news coming out about stocks within the portfolio.

Disney (DIS) Is About To Take The Biggest Risk In The Company’s 98 Year History.
With slowing Growth on Disney+, the company is taking a risky strategy to re-energize growth but with the possibility of alienating long time fans. Moving their strategy from being kid-friendly and having family values at heart, DIS is potentially looking to steer towards more adult content.

Amazon (AMZN) Credit Cards ‘Stand To Benefit’ From Visa Ban.
Amazon decided to stop accepting payments from UK-issued Visa credit cards from next year. This comes off the back of both Mastercard (MA) and Visa (V) looking to increase their fees since Brexit took away the 0.3% cap for online cross-border transactions.
